Tom Gore Wins SIBL Round 3
|
|
20 December 2004
Yesterday's round three of the Southern Indoor Bouldering League was
Dane Court's first involvement this winter.
With so many top-performers in the juniors last year, five moved up to
the Open category for the first time at the Castle yesterday. Callum Harris
and Tony Musselbrook made the top ten finishing 8th and 9th respectively.
Tom Gore was well clear of his nearest rival and finished in first place.

In the senior category Tom Gore made a fantastic effort on super-hard

Tony Musselbrook
on Boulder 2
|
26 September 2004
Dane Court climbers Joel Charley and Tony Musselbrook competed in an exciting
final at the Sunderland Wall yesterday. Joel did well in the bouldering
discipline; succeeding on some very hard problems; but disappointing scores
on two lead routes led to his finishing seventeenth overall.
Tony really impressed the rest of the field and certainly had some British
Team members worried about their reputations. His efficient and precise
leading technique placed him firmly in the top five but it was Tony's powerful
bouldering which moved him up the order to finish fourth overall and a mere
two points from a podium position.
Tony, and Tyler Landman (first overall) were the only competitors to flash
all five boulder problems.
Although in the lead for most of the day, the London and South East team
finished in fourth place.

Trad Routes Fall to North Wales Visitors

Holyhead Mountain |
9 August 2004
Reports from North Wales indicate that the summer holidays
have got off to an excellent start.
The annual maintenance trip to the Kent Mountain Centre saw several days
of good weather and numerous ascents in the E grades. Significant amongst
these were Matthew Cousins's successes on Comes the Dervish E3 5c
in the Vivian Quarry and the intimidating Left Wall E2 5c on Dinas
Cromlech. He completed both with great style and competence.
A diary of the visit can be found here
and more pictures are here.
Russ Bates, Joe Cook and Tom Gore, on their second annual pilgrimage to
Llanberis, left their mark in the Quarries with Tom powerfully climbing
The Mau Mau E4 6a and both Joe and Tom completing the scary 1000
Tons of Chicken Shit E5 6a without a mat.

Small Hands or Big Talent at Bowles
Rocks?
|
|
29 June 2004
In a day of significant successful ascents, Matthew Cousins and Callum
Harris completed two hard climbs new to Dane Court team members.
With many adult climbers quoting that "his small fingers" explain
how a mere boy can succeed where they have repeatedly failed, it was reassuring
to see these two top out on undeniably hard 6b's:
Callum breezed the the steep slab problem; "The Ly'in" (6b),
commenting that he found the crux easy.
Matthew completed the powerful and spectacular roof problem; "The
Thing" (6b+) watched by an amazed audience who broke into spontaneous
applause when Matthew completed the climb.

BRYCS Round 1
|
|
25 May 2004
Dane Court climbers made an excellent start in the Junior National
series at The Westway on Sunday.
In the Boy's 10 to 12 category, Rhys Barnes Miller, Stephen Charley and
Nick Stewart battled against very strong oppostion to gain respectable
finising positions.
The Boys 13 to 15 category was dominated by Dane Court team members. Tony
Musselbrook, Joel Charley and Callum Harris finished up there with Tyler
Landman in the top four where the scores were very close indeed.
It was good to see Joel's youngest brother competing in the 7 to 9's and
Tony's sister in the 10-12's.

BICC Results

national rankings place three of our pupils higher than expected.
Callum Harris and Matthew Cousins were 16th and 17th respectively. Tony
Musselbrook finished an impressive ninth.
The championships were attended primarily to gain experience this year.
With such promising results, we will seriously consider entering pupils
for the 2004/2005 series.

Joel Charley
Through the First Stage
|
|
10 January 2004
Junior National Competition Climbing Team managers at the BMC have
decided to postpone decisions about new members until after the three
BICC rounds this year. Joel has been accepted as a temporary member of
the British junior squad. He will be invited to attend the next regional
team training. His performance there, and in the forthcoming BICC events
will decide his future as a British team member.

Ford Ranger Cup
|
|
2 January 2004
The organisers of the Urban Rock SIBL have been invited to hold a special
competition during the Outdoor Adventure Show at the Business Design Centre
in Islington, London on 7 and 8 February 2004. Individuals will qualify
for a place in the competition by being highly ranked in the main SIBL
series after the fourth round on 1 February.
It looks very likely that nine team members will qualify with another
two on the borderline.
In usual SIBL style, the prize value and structure is currently unknown;
but with sponors such as Urban Rock and Ford supporting the event there
could be a real incentive to get into the top few places.
